Customer Profile

Ken Hill is a pensioner living on his own. Although he still has the use of a car, there may come a time when Ken has to give up driving. Rather than become isolated from friends and family and rely on other people to run errands such as the weekly shopping, Ken decided to learn how to use a PC and the internet with a view to using this technology to maintain his independence. Ken attended a couple of computer lessons at a local centre and decided he would like his own PC but found the terminology and costs rather daunting.

Services Provided

Web Embrace assessed Ken's needs and recommended a low cost PC that combined performance with great value for money. Ken's computer use was limited to browsing the web, sending and receiving emails, word processor activities and printing so it was more important to provide a PC that was reliable and easy to use than a high specification PC with the latest functionality.

The PC was pre-configured by Web Embrace with large fonts and icons so the display could be read clearly. Anti-virus, firewall and spyware protection was configured and the appropriate office applications also installed.

A printer and suitable ISP (Internet Service Provider) was also set-up and the PC pre-configured with an email account.

A Satisfied Customer

The aim was to create a desktop PC that would be as easy as possible for Ken to use and this is what Web Embrace achieved. With everything set-up in advance for Ken, it left the simple task of plugging the PC in and switching it on. Several hours of patient tutoring was also provided, with additional support offered, so that Ken could be shown how to get the most out of his new PC.

Ken believes you are never too old to try a new activity and he has been using the PC on a regular basis.
